Ficano – Recall?

By , October 21, 2011 3:17 pm

From Crains:

Last week, Ficano told me he wasn’t worried about re-election. He won his third term in 2010, and isn’t up again till 2014.
But that was before the FBI news broke.

Such an investigation could take “years,” Andreoff said. “Months and years.”

2014 is a long way off. Should taxpayers shoulder the burden of what seems to be at the very least a mismanagement of public dollars?

In case you never saw it…

The recall of Andy Dillon in Michigan is nearly legendary.  This video is an interesting documentary..

And then there was THIS:

The question is now that he is running for GOVERNOR of Michigan.. Did we ever answer that question? FOIA was designed for such things I believe.. stay tuned.

North Dakota Recall Effort Underway

By , April 16, 2010 1:46 pm

Following behind court wins in the NJ Menendez recall campaign, yet aAnother US Senate recall effort is now underway in North Dakota, and is seeking petition signature gatherers.  One of the primary organizers Joe wells says:

“We need North Dakota volunteers for petition work. You will be in charge of a district and giving out and collecting petition books to other volunteers. You must be over 18, and have lived in North Dakota for at least 30 days.
We need one more committee member who is capable of setting up and running a recall web page. Templates of existing pages can be provided if needed. You must be over 18, and have lived in North Dakota for at least 30 days.”

Recall Posse List Being Populated

By , April 14, 2010 7:52 pm

The mailing list is alive and active.

We now have people in several states who have signed up and several more who have not confirmed.

What the list is:

  1. A way for members to reach out for help in recall and targeted rally campaigns with contact information etc..
  2. A quick message board of lessons learned to help others avoid problems
  3. A means to quickly respond for signature gathering
  4. A way to find out which politicians are being targeted

What the list is NOT:

  1. A discussion board – though some replies may be necessary for clarification
  2. A forum to promote new candidates in place of those we are attempting to remove.

To Join the list please comment, and I will add you to the list

I am Spartacus? you might be too..

My business is not so large, but I concede it could be affected negatively by the health care boondoggle.  While we wait to replace our representatives, we must still shut the over reaching activity by the despots in congress and administration.  Let them know we are all..  Affected.   To wit, Michelle Malkin has suggested a plan for an April 21st rally of business owners showing up to let Washington know they don’t really understand the impact of their actions.

“What if countless business owners large and small from across the country showed up on Capitol Hill to stand in solidarity with the CEOs of AT&T, Deere, Caterpillar and Verizon? What if the business each came with a sign publicizing their write downs — and enumerating all the other costs (jobs lost, benefits cut, expansion plans canceled) that Demcare will impose on them”

Indeed.. what if?

BREAKING! Recall of NJ Senator Menendez may go forward!

By , March 17, 2010 1:19 pm

A three-judge appellate panel ruled today (march 16, 2010)  that the New Jersey secretary of state must accept the tea partiers’ notice of intent to recall Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., and allow their joint recall committee to begin collecting the voter signatures needed to put the senator’s name back on the ballot, two years before his term is supposed to end.

This opens the door and moves the question of whether Senators can be recalled.

While they still face an uphill battle in the collection process, it may help to settle the unknown aspect of this procedure.

Stay tuned.

US Senators Might Want To Pay attention

By , February 12, 2010 12:43 pm

~ Cross posted from Michigan Taxes ~

Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow may be doing that.. They should be.

New Jersey is one of the eighteen states that have specific provisions within their constitutions that allow for the recall of their respective US Senators.

Article I Section 2b of the New Jersey Constitution reads as follows:

The people reserve unto themselves the power to recall, after at least one year of service, any elected official in this State or representing this State in the United States Congress. The Legislature shall enact laws to provide for such recall elections.

There are some who are going to attempt to remove Senator Bob Menendez… And they are dead serious.

The 18 states allowing for recall of senators are as follows: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington and Wisconsin.

Michigan is one of them.

There are critics who cite a supreme court decision as a blockade to such an action. The committee to recall Menendez points out:

Times editorial mentioned “a 1995 U.S. Supreme Court opinion written by Justice John Paul Stevens” that said that the recall statute “couldn’t be applied to federal officeholders.” What opinion that might be was far from clear. The case of US Term Limits v. Thornton said that no State may “alter or add to the qualifications” for Congressional office–but said nothing materially about interrupting the term of office of a Member of Congress. Though no State has yet recalled a Senator, the Constitution is in fact silent on the issue, and no provision in it says that a Senator is anything other than an agent for the State that sends him.

An interesting series.. worth the read.

I have commented on the Michigan constitutional provision that allows recall before. I have further wondered what the language should be to make it as clear to the recall voter how utterly incompetent Michigan’s two sitting US Senators are.

Perhaps “For failure to understand the United States Constitution, and enacting laws which run contrary to it, and against the best interests of the citizens of Michigan and the Nation..”

Yeah.. Something like that.

Grosse Pointe Recall Effort Moves Forward

By , January 28, 2010 12:39 pm

Dr. Lee has done a bit of recall work in Grosse Pointe Shores Michigan:

They are targeting Mayor Dr. James Cooper, and councilman and mayor Pro Tem Dr. Brian Hunt; and council members Victoria Boyce, Robert Graziani and Frederick Minturn.

An uncertified tally of signatures provided by an elections office employee showed Boyce, Graziani and Minturn receiving more signatures than votes in the February election.

News of the filing came toward the end of the Grosse Pointe Shores city council meeting Tuesday night, after the Grosse Pointe News print deadline.

Now then..  Water the ponies, there is a little more work to be done. Good luck on the certification Dr. Lee.
